In the presence of 1,500 representatives of political and business life, the new Terminal 1 at Hamburg Airport was today officially opened, thus laying the basis for future growth. Up to now, the airport - in which HOCHTIEF AirPort holds a 49 percent stake in conjunction with Aer Rianta and HTAC - has been operating close to its limits but with this new facility, it can increase its capacity from ten to around 15 million passengers a year. At the same time, the service range on offer can be substantially extended.

The new terminal is the center-piece of the EUR 350 million HAM 21 expansion program with which Hamburg Airport is positioning itself to cope with tougher competition. As well as a new pier, the program includes additional parking options and improved approach routes. By 2008, there will also be a new hotel, another terminal building with retail functions, and a suburban rail link.

"The visually very attractive new facilities increase the airport‘s scope for action and thus step up its potential for further growth," says Dr. Ulrich Stucke, Managing Director of HOCHTIEF AirPort. He emphasized that as private partner in cooperation with the City of Hamburg, the company sought to show that it is possible to combine high standards of service and cost-effectiveness with functionality and practicality. "We are delighted that here we have been able to demonstrate this in such an impressive fashion."

HOCHTIEF AirPort (HTA) bundles the airport management business of international construction-related services group HOCHTIEF. The company has been involved in the field of airport privatizations since 1997 and acquires airport concessions. HTA currently has shareholdings in the airports of Athens, Düsseldorf, Hamburg and Sydney, and within the framework of a concession agreement also operates Tirana Airport. In March this year, HTA and three financial partners founded the first investment partnership in the airport sector.
