Hamburg Airport: HOCHTIEF clears final hurdle

Essen
13.10.2000

The move by HOCHTIEF AirPort GmbH, Essen, to acquire a 36 percent stake in Hamburg Airport has now received the final approval it required: the consent of Hamburg‘s City Council. This means that the acquisition is now effective in law.

HOCHTIEF AirPort, with its partner Aer Rianta International cpt., Ireland, won the bidding for the partial privatization of the airport operating company, Flughafen Hamburg GmbH, in July this year. The requisite approval of the German cartel office was granted just two months later.

With this stake in Hamburg Airport, HOCHTIEF AirPort - founded in 1997 to concentrate all the HOCHTIEF Group‘s airport activities - has moved closer to its goal of becoming one of the leading international airport groups. It already holds stakes in Düsseldorf Airport (50 percent in conjunction with Aer Rianta International) and the new Athens International Airport, which will open for civil aviation operations on 1 March 2001.
