Major gateway in the Caribbean: San Juan Airport

Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport in San Juan, Puerto Rico (IATA code: SJU), is the biggest and busiest airport in the Caribbean. It is the island’s main point of entry and the home airport of many airlines. In 2023, the airport handled 12.2 million passengers, corresponding to around 90 percent of the total Puerto Rican passenger volume.

San Juan Airport, which celebrated its 65th anniversary in 2020, is the first and currently the only large airport in the USA to be successfully privatized within the framework of the FAA Airport Privatization Pilot Program.

Since May 2017, AviAlliance has held a 40-percent stake in the operating company Aerostar Airport Holdings, LLC. The remaining 60 percent is held by Grupo Aeroportuario del Sureste (ASUR), Mexico. AviAlliance and ASUR, in their role as industrial investors, actively support the airport’s development.
